Dr Cephas Chikanda
(MBA, MBChB, HD Int. Med)
Founder & Managing Director

Remaining true to his commitment towards access to health for all, Dr Cephas Chikanda is the founder and Managing Director at Pulse Health. He is responsible for the overall executive management, business development, financial management and employee management & development. He is also the lead consultant doing the actual project work, running the different projects at client sites/offices. Dr Chikanda has served in various capacities in both public and NGO sector organizations and has a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals.

Dr Chikanda holds a Medical Degree from the University of Zimbabwe, Post-Graduate Internal Medicine with the Colleges of Medicine South Africa and an MBA from the University of Cape Town. He is the Board Chairman of Kheth’impilo, Zimbabwe and a 2010 recipient of the prestigious Desmond Tutu Young African Leadership Fellowship.

Dr Edzani Mphaphuli
(MBChB, MPH)
Non-Executive Director

Dr Edzani Mphaphuli is one of the founding directors of Pulse Health. A graduate of the University of Cape Town’s Medical School, she started her medical career at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and went on to work in the primary health care facilities around the City of Johannesburg. Most of her work involved health systems strengthening and health sector reform working closely with facility and provincial management teams to streamline processes for effective delivery of primary healthcare services.

Edzani is a member of the Southern African HIV Clinicians Society. Presently Edzani, is a with the University of Pretoria’s Public Health Medicine Department. She is an avid reader with interest public health and health.

Stephen Mutongerwa
(MSc Finance & Banking, BSc Business IT)
Project Operations Manager

Stephen spent over 10 years in a wide array of industries holding various roles in I.T, Treasury, Corporate Banking, Supply Chain and Healthcare Systems Planning. He specialised in Business Strategy, Operations Management, financial engineering and Modelling during his studies (Business Management & Information Technology {Hons} and Banking & Financial Services (MSc).

At Pulse Steve, brings in the financial modelling and planning to develop cost-effective health systems processes and designs. He is skilled at designing and implementing finance and operational frameworks, compiling data into a graphical format so it can be easily interpreted and acted upon by management from a strategic level. Steve has been extensively involved in Pulse’s Hospital due diligence and business case analysis. He runs the VMMC project and GP contracting.

Mr. Mashudu Rampilo
(MPH, BSc Micro & Biochemistry)
Strategic Information Technical Lead

A specialist in health information and informatics, Mashudu has a BSc Degree in Microbiology & Biochemistry from the University of Venda. He completed his Masters in Public Health (MPH) with Wits University. He has more than 10 years working experience on Monitoring & Evaluation to direct and guide health systems planning and design. He has worked for Department of Health directly and as technical advisor implementing and strengthening health information systems for monitoring HIV/TB and other related programs. He has excellent experience on developing Monitoring & Evaluation tools utilised by Department of Health and supported partners at different levels of health care system.

Mashudu’s personal motto is that “Winners never quit and quitters never win”. His vision for the future is an HIV-free generation made possible through the use of health information across all the WHO building blocks of health systems.

Dr Sikelelwa Mrubata – Nkhahle
(B. Curr Nursing, MBChB)
Project Manager Gauteng

Dr Sikelelwa Nkhahle worked in the primary healthcare in the Eastern Cape strengthening the design and implementation of primary healthcare programmes. A qualified medical doctor Siki has been spearheading Pulse’s operation in Ekurhuleni successfully spearheading the introduction of enhanced comprehensive health care services and programs.

Dr Nkhahle has extensive experience in leadership and management having worked at Lerato clinic in Bertha Gxowa Hospital as acting Head of Department prior to joining Pulse Healthcare.

Ms. Khumbuzile Bhengu
Programmes Manager

Ms. Khumbuzile Bhengu is a development specialist with more than ten years of experience in the social and public health sectors. Her experience is in research projects, public-private partnerships, stakeholder relations and programme management. She has worked for various development partners as Research Assistant for Futures Group, HSS Programme Co-ordinator for BroadReach Healthcare, Corporate Social Investment Consultant for Tshikululu Social Investment NPC, Project Manager for Anova Health Institute. Khumbuzile has a higher diploma in Education, a BA degree in development studies and a higher certificate in management from FPD. She is currently responsible for government relations and programmes coordination.

Wendy Khupe
(CPA, CIA, RPA, BAcc Hons)
Finance & Admin Manager

Wendy is a self-starter, driven and passionate about her work. She is a multi-disciplined professional who has developed a solid and wide knowledge of internal controls, systems implementation, risk, accounting, auditing, finance, human resources, corporate advisory, banking and insurance skills throughout her career. She has gathered solid experience and ability to succeed through challenges and different dynamics in organisations through her experience in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

She has vast knowledge and experience in health services, financial services, municipal and manufacturing industries. She has also worked in various corporate advisory roles. Wendy is Certified Public Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor with over 16 years’ experience in Financial Accounting, Financial Reporting, Management Accounting, Auditing, Information Systems and Risk Management. She brings this diverse knowledge and experience within Pulse Health to conduct business analysis, business process re-engineering, risk assessments and the design of operating and control frameworks.

Dr Ebby Mkhabela
Programme Manager – Strategic Programmes

Dr Mkhabela obtained medical degree from MEDUNSA. DR Mkhabela, a General Medical Practitioner by profession with 13 years’ experience working in private, Public health Care and NGO sector. He has worked as CEO and Chief Medical Officer at Shongwe hospital CEO and Senior Medical Manager in Barberton Hospital. during that period a comprehensive and extensive experience in health care management system was gained.

He was appointed as a Provincial Manager by Right to Care (NGO) working together with Mpumalanga Department of health on HIV/ AIDS and TB programme management. His Key performance area included but not limited to: Provide managerial, strategic leadership, technical and administrative responsibility to assess, develop and implementation of all necessary programmatic strategies to decrease the burden of the disease and increase life expectancy. He served as provincial board member of Department of health mental health user review Board. Reporting to the MEC at the same year he was serving as Mpumalanga provincial coordinator for southern Africa HIV clinician society.

2010 to 2014 Dr Mkhabela has played a major role on strategic role out of Medical Male Circumcision (MMC) programme in Mpumalanga province both private and within the public sector.

Dr Nthabiseng Motsoane
(MB ChB)
Senior Medical Adviser ACC

Dr Nthabiseng Motsoane holds an MB BCh (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery) from the University of Witwatersrand, which she completed in 2008. She has extensive experience in general and public health issues including HIV management which she gained by working as a medical officer in the public health sector and as a clinical advisor in HIV NGOs, including ANOVA, FPD and currently Pulse Health.

She also serves in the private health insurance industry where she is a trustee of Sizwe Medical Aid and a member of the Clinical Governance committee and Audit and Risk committe. She is currently completing her MBA (Master of Business Administration) at Milpark Business School.
